Big news: I’ve signed with Water Dragon Publishing to bring you my debut lunarpunk novel, The Working! I look forward to you meeting the coven who must thwart a looming eco-cataclysm and find the key to the bright future we all need. Expected launch: Summer 2024.
(No dragons in my book, but plenty of Witches!)
I liken the book to a contemporary The Once and Future Witches by Alix E Harrow intersecting The City We Became by NK Jemisin.
Over the years, many of you have asked me to write a nonfiction Craft book. But I prefer reading fiction, thus, The Working incorporates real magic and magical activism with my flavor of spiritual practice.
- social & climate justice: yep!
- nonhuman entities to thwart: yep!
- authoritarian humans to thwart: yep!
- ensemble cast: yep!
- multi-POV: yep!
- diverse characters including LGBTQIA: yep!
- Witchcraft and practical magic: yep!
- Earth healing and sustainability: yep!
- set in the real world: yep!
- activism: yep!
- eco-feminist: yep!
I have work to do!
Now I have to polish my manuscript and release her into the world! This is my work of the next few months.
My writing groups have helped me shape my manuscript over the years. My most recent beta readers and critique partners are part of the awesome and active Brooklyn Speculative Fiction Writers. They’ve also helped me polish my solarpunk stories that appear in magazines and anthologies—hope you’ve read some of these.
The core of The Working predates my short solarpunk fiction. As I polish my manuscript, I will look for ways to incorporate even more solarpunk since radical hope, mutualism, interconnectedness, and similar solarpunk traits move us towards just, regenerative futures.
After all, I am a Solarpunk Witch and I write to change the world!
